This week was simply about presenting where we were at. In a summer class, there just isn’t enough time to complete a 3 minute motion graphic & take another class at the same time. I will have to complete the video at a later time. Here’s a version with lots of errors and animated up to 2 minutes:
I modeled an airplane in Cinema 4D to use with Element 3D within After Effects. I had to rig the propeller to spin with a null and added bullets shooting with Particular from the turrets on the wings. My animation is progressing nicely, but it’s going to take me longer than this summer class allows for. I will post my final rough draft and update in my final post for the class. Here’s a look at what the modeled plane looks like:
a view from within Cinema showing the model bi-plane.
I will be using the song, Rising Dream from Audio Jungle for my finished motion graphic. It has the feeling of telling a building story that is better as it’s being told. I felt it had a “heartland” feel as well as being a driving song that would inspire the message.
I’m a little behind this week, but I was able to produce the timing cut. I refined a few items, but this is the final timing cut as I move into actual animation. There is no music here, only voice over and production boards.
Phew, another intense week of creating visuals. I think I finally created everything necessary to move into the animatic stage. All the production boards are done, but I’m sure I’ll have to adjust a few things once they are in After Effects. On to prepping the files to make them usable in AE.
Finished long pan shot.
Icons about urban farming: healthy food, community, jobs, and environmental impact
This week I recorded my voice over script and started work on a few of the production boards. It turns out that my storyboards helped out immensely in planning my production boards. I don’t think I’ve ever pumped out illustrations so fast and still consistently likely them. I must be improving before my very eyes, because I’ve never been able to work this fast and maintain my quality and standards. I’m posting a few examples of my production boards.
I wrote a voice over script this week. This took hours of research and thought into what I wanted to communicate as the story to modern urban farming in the United States. The story follows the rise of victory farms, changes in population, pollution by large corporations, and the growing need for local sustainable food systems.
This week was focused on creating moodboards and style frames. The over feel for my motion graphic is bright earthy colors with subtle textures. I plan to use iconography and lots of illustrations to communicate the points.
First motion graphics class involving my thesis project. This is a summer course, so it will move twice as fast. I already know Tim Rice, the instructor, but all the other students are new. I have been asked to create a timeline and an outline for the coming semester. We will be held to this timeline and assessed based on our reported progress along out timeline.
